Your Local Pharmacy

Your local pharmacy can help treat most common colds or illnesses with over the counter medicines, they can also offer health advice for you and your family. In turn this advice could save you a trip to the GP.

Visit your local pharmacy for advice and treatment on:

  • Aches and pains
  • Mild Cystitis and thrush
  • Coughs
  • Colds and Seasonal Flu
  • Scalds and burns
  • Healthy eating advice
  • Stopping smoking services and much more

Services can also include (check with your pharmacist):

  • Blood pressure checks
  • Cholesterol and heart check
  • Chlamydia tests
  • Diabetes tests
  • Emergency contraception
  • Family Planning
  • Needle and syringe exchange
  • Pregnancy tests

Your medicine cupboard should include:

  • Pain relief (Aspirin, Paracetamol and Ibuprofen)
  • Children’s medicine
  • Antihistamines (for bites and stings)
  • Oral rehydration salts (to ease effects of fever, diarrhoea and vomiting)
  • Anti-diarrhoea tablets
  • Indigestion treatment
  • Sunscreen (at least SPF 15)
  • First aid kit (bandages, plasters, thermometer, antiseptic, eyewash solution, sterile dressings, medical tape, tweezers)

REMEMBER — ALWAYS KEEP MEDICINES OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
